Noises problem

1998 Ford E-Series Van  V8 Two Wheel Drive Automatic 166k miles

For some time now I have noticed my vehicle shuddering within a few seconds after I press the gas pedal. If I press the gas pedal further, the shuddering stops. Also, if I just press the pedal hard to begin with, it usually doesn't shudder (although it seems to "kick"  a little when I release the acceleration pedal). This has been a concern, but nothing I worried too much about. Just yesterday, though, my van was making a "clickety-clickety-clickety" sound whenever I pressed the gas pedal (probably about 2 or 3 clicks each second). It also was lacking power. (It has a v8 engine). It was having difficulty accelerating and, on one hill I could not get above 45mph with the pedal all the way to the ground. After about 25 miles of this, I stopped the vehicle. Shortly after I started it again the "Service Engine" light came on.

I was thinking that the shuddering could be a bad ignition coil perhaps? Is it possible that the shuddering is related to  the clicking noises and the lack of power? If anyone could help me on this, I'd appreciate it. Thanks!
