Smells problem

1996 Ford Windstar  6 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic



I was parked at a store when my sister noticed something leaking pretty bad from the bottem of my car. She dipped her finger in it and both her an I  smelled gas. I had been having steering probelms for over a month could that actually be the steering fluid or is it possible that it is a gas leak and if so how can I check it to see.? I haven't a clue where to look for the leak. Thank you so  much!
